About apprenticeships old

Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes that are an excellent way of bringing new talent into the profession as well as developing the skills of existing members of staff. They allow apprentices to combine employment and training - earning whilst learning. Apprentices develop technical knowledge, through the study of a professional qualification, learn key employment skills and demonstrate their competence in the world of work.

Apprenticeships are available in over 170 different sectors, including insurance and financial planning.

There are currently four levels of apprenticeships available within insurance and financial planning: level 2 (Award); level 3 (Award/Certificate); level 4 (Ceritifcate/Diploma) and level 6 (Advanced Diploma).

Update (March 2017) - Aspire: the PFS's new Financial Adviser development programme

Following the launch of a new Financial Adviser apprenticeship standard in November, the Personal Finance Society has launched Aspire - its new financial adviser development programme.

As a result of a combination of apprenticeship funding and Personal Finance Society sponsorship, Aspire involves a structured training programme lasting 18 months, during which participants will achieve the necessary qualifications and skills required to become a fully qualified financial adviser for the cost of just £900.

It includes all six diploma exams, as well as regional training events including exam revision and soft skills workshops, plus a personal coach for each apprentice to provide structure and support during the programme.
