Annual General Meeting

2023

The 2023 Annual General Meeting of the Chartered Insurance Institute took place on Thursday 30 November. The meeting was the second hybrid AGM held by the CII. Members were welcomed in person to The Insurance Hall, Aldermanbury, London, and online from around the world.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Helen Phillips, Chair of the CII Group Board. Members heard from Alan Vallance, Chief Executive, who reported on the performance of the group in 2022.

The CII President, Russell Higginbotham, spoke on his Presidential theme for the year – resilience – which had given him the opportunity to engage around many different topics in the insurance world. The President thanked Local Institute volunteers and encouraged all members to get involved with CII events.

All ordinary business was passed. Members elected Ian Callaghan, Insurer Relations Director at Kingfisher Insurance, as President for 2024 and Nicola Stacey was elected 2024 Deputy President. Brian Caruth was appointed as Vice President, Local Institutes; Enas Asiri and Suresh Nair were both appointed Vice President, International.

The panel responded to questions from Members on a range of topics, including regulation and qualifications standards, the timing of the publication of the 2022 Annual Report and Accounts, the possibility of more international events and the need for members’ adherence to the CII Code of Ethics.
